Truth In Marketing

Marketing is not a regulated or licensed industry, so there are plenty of self-proclaimed marketers out there who sully the good name of the rest of us decency-abiding marketing nerds.  Take for example the robot that left a voice mail on my business line, imploring me to check out a URL.

Cat-like, I punched in the URL and was brought to a website that — while exhibiting landing page layout best practices, to be sure — was clearly a money-making scam company (surprise, surprise).  The part on the home page that amused me the most?  The sentence that read

No Cold Calling.

Because, um, their agent a.k.a. the auto-voice mail-robot cold called me.

If you want to check it out for yourself, type in Turbo ATM dot com.  That URL again, T-U-R-B-O-A-T-M dot com.

Good gravy.

Department of wishful thinking: here’s hoping that 2010 brings less lame marketing, and more thoughtful marketing.  :)
